Japan-Only PS5 "Midnight Black" Digital Edition Announced, Launches November 19

Launch story cover

Sony unveiled a new PlayStation 5 color variant today, but it will ship for Japan only. The "PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black (Japanese language only)" was announced in an October 13 PlayStation.Blog Japan post and launches November 19, 2026, per Gematsu. The disc-less console is priced at ¥55,000 tax included, its about US$350 at current exchange rates per Gematsu, with no official Philippine price announced.

What's in the box

The full bundle includes the console (825GB SSD, model CFI-2200B02S), one DualSense controller, horizontal feet, cables, printed materials, and a preinstalled Astro's Playroom, a complete package rather than a shell. A standalone "Midnight Black" disc drive also launches the same day at a reported ¥11,980.

The Japan lock

Like the "Japanese Language Only" PS5 from October 2025, this variant can only be used inside Japan, pairing a Japanese-language console with a PlayStation account that has Japan set as country or region. No global availability has been announced. It's also separate from the earlier global Midnight Black Collection accessories.

The Philippine take

For Filipino gamers, this is more industry-watch material than a shopping tip. Sony keeps slicing out Japan-specific SKUs, but the account and region lock make this model impractical for buyers here, there's no official PHP price to compare against, and importing it would mean living with a locked console and account. If you really want a black PS5, the global Midnight Black Collection accessories remain the more realistic path.
